Data Collection & Usage

Comments:
Whenever you leave a comment on our website, we gather the information displayed within the comment form. For better spam protection, we also log your IP address and your browser’s user agent string.

If you're using the Gravatar service, a hashed version of your email may be sent to verify its usage. After your comment gets the green light, your Gravatar profile picture becomes publicly viewable alongside your comment. Learn more about Gravatar's privacy policy here.

Media Uploads:
For those uploading images to our platform, we advise against embedding location data (like EXIF GPS) within them. Such data can be extracted by website visitors.

Cookies & Browser Data:
Should you comment on our site, there's an option to store your name, email, and website in cookies for convenience, sparing you from re-entering the details on subsequent visits. These cookies are valid for one year.

A temporary cookie will be initiated when you access our login page. This helps us ascertain your browser's compatibility with cookies. Worry not; this cookie carries no personal data and vanishes once you exit your browser.

On login, a few cookies are activated to remember your details and screen preferences. While login cookies last two days, screen preference cookies remain for a year. Choose "Remember Me", and the login stays active for two weeks. Logging out will deactivate these cookies.

Editing or posting an article prompts the saving of a cookie in your browser, highlighting the post ID of the content you engaged with. This cookie is short-lived, expiring in a day.

Embedded Content:
This site might feature embedded items like videos, images, or articles. Such content from external sources behaves as if you’re directly visiting those sources. These third-party sites might collect your data, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and oversee your interaction, especially if you're logged into those sites.

Data Sharing & Retention

Data Sharing:
In instances of password reset requests, the reset email will carry your IP address. Also, note that comments from visitors might undergo an automated spam detection process.

Data Retention:
Comments and associated metadata are stored indefinitely, allowing us to swiftly identify and approve subsequent comments. Registered users have their personal details stored in their profiles. While they can view and modify most of this data (username being the exception), website admins retain similar privileges.

Your Data Rights:
Users of this site, either through accounts or comments, can request an exported dataset of the personal details we possess about them. Moreover, you can ask for the deletion of this data, barring what we need for administrative, legal, or security necessities.
